Ach, das fühlt sich gut an. Ein Gratulation des Meisters selbst zur Vincent-preisgekrönten Übersetzung des Scharlachroten Evangeliums. Ich sitze hier jeden Tag an meinem Schreibtisch und kämpfe mit den Worten, den Formulierungen, dem Flow. Auch mit dem inneren Schweinehund, der oft gerne was ganz anderes machen würde als Übersetzen. Einsames, anstrengendes Geschäft, bei dem man eine Menge Selbstdisziplin braucht, um überhaupt etwas zustande zu bringen. Da sind so ein Preis und die damit verbundene Anerkennung schon eine Riesenmotivation. Also weiter im Text!
Oh yes, this feels good. The maestro himself congratulating me on (sort of) being awarded the Vincent Preis for Best International Novel, because I translated The Scarlet Gospels, so technically, I see myself as a winner now... I'm sitting at my desk, day-in, day-out, wrestling with the words, the phrasing, the flow. And with my own weaker self, which tends to want to do everything but translate stuff. It's a lonely, demanding business that needs a lot of self-inflicted discipline to work. Which is why such an award, and the attendant appreciation, are a real boost to my motivation. That said, let's get on with the work!
